Cardiff Sixth Form College and Dukes Education

The UK’s top A Level provider, Cardiff Sixth Form College – which is favoured by the world’s best students – has been acquired by leading education group, Dukes Education, combining the unique strengths of both organisations.

Cardiff Sixth Form College already has an enviable reputation at the top of the school league tables, with 93% of students in 2016 achieving A*-A grades and 99% of students achieving A*-B grades.

For the past six years running, the college has also been awarded Top Private School in the UK, Top Private Co-educational Boarding School and Top Private Sixth Form College, in the Education Advisers’ Awards.

Dukes Education, meanwhile, has an unmatched application success rate to Oxford and Cambridge universities, with 52% of its global long-term clients achieving entrance compared to an 11% success rate for international students generally and around 20% for all Oxbridge applicants.

Managing Director of Dukes Education, Glenn Hawkins – a former Cardiff teacher with a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Cardiff University, said: “It is business as usual at Cardiff Sixth Form College, which has found a winning formula combining the rigours and discipline of an Eastern education with a Western approach that values individual creativity.

“Going forward, we will be investing in the facilities and the excellent teaching staff, who will be supported by Dukes Education and its consultants and tutors.”

Cardiff Sixth Form College was established in 2004 and is a world-leading co-educational boarding school with 300 students from over 30 different nationalities. It attracts the world’s brightest students, with the highest expectations of the quality of education they receive. Every pupil is given pastoral care and encouraged to foster their unique talents.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) graded Cardiff Sixth Form College as “exceeding expectations for the quality of education.”

The college’s Principal, Gareth Collier – who has a wealth of experience of working in a number of schools across the UK – added: “We are extremely fortunate to have the backing of Dukes Education, which is already familiar to us as it has been providing us with the highest quality educational guidance and support and helping our students gain places at the world’s most prestigious universities since 2010.

“Both organisations focus on providing the best possible outcomes for all students, supporting their families – many of whom are overseas – in the process.”

The College has also been awarded Independent School status and Mr Collier added: “I am enormously proud to be at the helm of Cardiff Sixth Form College at the point in time when we achieve Independent School status.

“This is recognition, by the Welsh Government, of the exceptionally high quality of our teaching and learning, pastoral care, governance and leadership plus financial management, appropriate for becoming an independent school in Wales.

“By virtue of being in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and having the reputation of being the best A Level provider in the UK by results, we are now one of the top Independent Schools in the whole of the UK.”

Dukes Education operates three other leading GCSE and A Level colleges in the UK – Fine Arts College in Hampstead, north London; Acorn House College, which specialises in the medical sciences, in West London; and Rochester Independent College in Kent.

Established in 1999, the consultancy arm of the business has since grown to over 2000 tutors and consultants, 85% of whom were educated at Oxford or Cambridge. They provide world-class tuition and university entrance support, specialising in helping students prepare to apply to the world’s leading universities such as Oxbridge and the Ivy League, as well as competitive degree courses like Medicine and Law. The consultancy has provided support to over 65,000 students from 126 countries and works closely with a network of over 400 schools a year to provide university preparation programmes.

Alongside its consultancy services, Dukes Education provides high-quality residential summer schools at some of the UK’s most prestigious boarding schools and the University of Oxford to students aged 8 to 17 from over 100 different countries each year.

The organisation’s senior consultants also travel to countries including Dubai, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Nigeria to work with international schools and private client families.
